With the Year of the Tiger fast approaching, it’s a good time to provide an update on our future strategic direction as well share our thoughts on the key market and technology trends that we see emerging over the next twelve months.
Over the past decade we have transitioned our business from IC design to embedded systems and most recently the development of VIA Intelligent Automotive, Edge, Industrial, and Building Solutions.
Our silicon design and embedded system expertise have proved invaluable in the development and integration of advanced edge perception capabilities for these solutions. Our VIA Intelligent Automotive Solutions, for example, includes systems that support up to nine cameras of varying types and have the ability not just to “see” potential safety threats around a vehicle, but also to alert the driver in time to avert an accident and even transmit video clips of critical incidents to the fleet management control center to take follow-up action. The systems can also track the attentiveness and behavior of the driver through their DSS (Driver Safety System), issuing alerts when they detect drowsiness, distraction, smoking, and smart phone usage.
While cameras are sufficient for mainstream on-road vehicle safety applications, radar is essential for the more demanding off-road environments you find in industries like mining and construction. To meet this growing demand, we have added smart sensor fusion technology to the VIA Mobile360 Heavy Equipment Safety System that we launched at MINEXPO® 2021 in Las Vegas. By combining camera detection with mmWave radar sensors, the system keeps operators safe in all weather, lighting, and environmental conditions.
During the coming year, we will step up the enhancement of edge perception capabilities of our VIA Mobile360 systems through the continuous optimization of our algorithms to further boost performance and accuracy for their target use cases and environments. Accelerating the development of our radar sensor fusion technology is also a key priority to meet diverse mining industry deployment needs.
